The last time I, Paul Terleski partner of Berkeley Red and Monaco 7, experienced Monaco I was 11, I can still remember the magical feeling of standing on Pole Position – and my dad moaning about buying the most expensive ice cream he had ever bought!
Fast forward 30 years and I was back with Berkeley Red and Monaco 7, Only this time entertaining 65 guests aboard a trackside, 100ft, tri-deck superyacht for the 2019 Monaco Grand Prix.
Monaco is like no other place. It is a tiny Royal principality on the French Riviera, the second smallest country on the planet and is also known to be the wealthiest place on earth. It possesses perhaps the most glamorous stretch of land in the world with scenery that has a seductive quality to it surrounded by deep blue sea, graceful palm trees and vibrant flowers.
The Grand Prix itself along with the Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans forms The Triple Crown of Motorsport and is the most prestigious race on the F1 calendar, so initially taking in its grandeur is an experience in itself.
As I meandered around the closed Circuit de Monaco in the low early evening sun I felt a true presence of past (and present) greats that had graced this circuit, Fangio, Prost, Schumacher and of course the 6 time champion Ayrton Senna a special feeling that comes over you of being somewhere truly special, I could almost hear Murray’s voice in my ear!
The great thing about entertaining guests as part of the Berkeley Red team, at this event (and others) is being able to enthuse with my clients about the action as it unfolds before our very eyes. A lot of hard work behind the scenes had gone into not only securing the yacht position and crew but making sure all catering was on point and served to clients, at pace – on demand, so instead of people thinking ‘where is my drink’ they are thinking ‘I wonder what car I will see next round that bend’? as their drink is handed to them
Speed boat tenders from Fontvieille Harbour to the superyacht was a wonderful experience for our clients, of Berkeley Red, to start their day (and myself I must add)! Flying across the waves at a high speed of knots before slowly taxiing through Monaco harbour and through the most glamorous yachts around is an unbelievable prelude to watching the world’s best F1 drivers fly past you at 180mph!
So, what lies ahead for 2020? More special experiences certainly lie ahead for my clients with a choice of 2 Superyachts to take in the high-speed action! I will be there, just in the background, as I was this year making sure that bucket list experiences are well and truly boxed off!
